专辑简介

altinoglu and hr symphony orchestra to launch complete shostakovich symphony cycle with two major works! Alain Altinoglu will begin recording the complete Shostakovich symphonies with the Frankfurt Radio (hr) Symphony Orchestra, of which he will be music director from 2021. Expectations are high for the orchestra, which is renowned for its excellent wind section of virtuoso players and strong string section. The first recording includes two symphonies with great impact: the No. 4, which has the largest orchestra, and the No. 5, which is the most popular. These two pieces were written during the darkest period of Shostakovich\’s life, but they took very different paths. Influenced greatly by Mahler, Shostakovich began composing the piece in 1935, and completed it in 1936, but the Soviet authorities intervened during rehearsals, forcing the cancellation of the premiere of No. 4, which did not see the light of day until 1961.Conversely, the premiere of his Fifth Symphony, completed the following year in 1937, was greeted with great acclaim and even praised as \”the ideal of socialist realism,\” although Shostakovich himself sarcastically remarked, \”What would they have said if I had ended with a pianissimo in a minor key? The combative finale is said to be both a \”heroic march\” and a \”march toward self-destruction\” with an underlying meaning. Altinoglu\’s interpretation of this hidden double-meaning is the focus of this concert, and he brings out Shostakovich\’s irony and humor more brilliantly than ever before, with an overwhelmingly strong performance that maximizes the orchestra\’s power throughout the two pieces, and a balance that pays close attention to detail.
