马友友比以往任何时候都更确信《巴赫无伴奏大提琴组曲》拥有超越此时此地的深远意义，这套组曲内含的思想和内部逻辑自成体系，音乐兼具发散性与连贯性，饱含热情的同时在表达上非常克制，如同人与人之间的对话，即便各持己见，却不妨碍彼此理解。
1983年，马友友首次录制了《无伴奏大提琴组曲》，斩获格莱美奖，自此闪耀乐坛；15年后的1998年，马友友第二次录制此作品，融入了对不同音乐风格的理解，并与其他艺术家跨界合作，将巴赫的音乐与建筑、舞蹈等艺术形式有机结合，展现全新的“巴赫灵感”。两张前作均由索尼古典发行，成为古典唱片史上的标志性专辑，也代表了马友友艺术人生不同时期的里程碑。本次发行的新专辑，是马友友的第三次录制，为马友友和巴赫大提琴组曲58年深厚渊源揭开全新篇章。
